The Digital Citizen Project connects students in the communities with the Internet and to sponsor-volunteers. For example, Dell employees can "adopt a student" volunteer by sponsoring and paying a student's fee via a paycheck deduction.

The Digital Citizen digital was jointly initiated by Dell and the Fundação Pensamento Digital.

Dell provides the infrastructure. Volunteer mentors "adopt" individual students, subsidize their computer learning, and interact with them over the internet.

This project stimulates a communication between students in the communities and other members of society. Courses last a semester, with a party at the end where students can meet their mentors face to face.
